Chocolate : positive and negative effects

Who does not love chocolate? I think everybody does love it. That is why i brought home-made chocolate recipe. But are chocolates really good to your health? Umm i don’t think so. Everyone loves chocolate no matter what their age is. Kids especially are crazy towards these chocolates. Knowing the side effects of chocolates, one must really consume it occasionally. Although being very tasty and addictive they create a lot of health problems in near future. That is why switching to healthy option is really important. Thus, i brought to you a better home-made chocolate recipe.

Positive effects

Chocolates are beneficial too for health. They are very nutritious and good source of antioxidants. Also reduces risks of heart diseases and may protect your skin from sun. Chocolates may also improve functioning of the brain. But chocolate does not mean the chocolates that are loaded with preservatives and chemicals and refined sugar, of course.

Negative effects of chocolates

Chocolates available at cheaper price with great taste are also a great source of health diseases that are developed. There are a lot more negative effects of chocolates that are loaded with chemicals and preservatives. Key ingredient of chocolate is cocoa, as everybody knows. Cocoa contains caffeine and related chemicals. Consuming cocoa in a large amount has various side-effects such as nervousness, increased heart beat and frequent urination. Caffeine also led to problems like sleeplessness.

These were the negative effects of consuming cocoa in large amount. Just wonder what would happen to your body when this cocoa would be added with harsh chemicals and preservatives. Not only this, but they are loaded with sugar as well, increasing risk of diabetes.

Not to say, that all chocolate brands will negatively effect you. There are many brands available which are although a bit costly but contain small list of ingredients with less preservatives and more of purity.

But how about a healthy recipe of chocolate at home with just 3 ingredients. Sounds amazing right ? Here is it, recipe of chocolate with least ingredient. This recipe is easy to make. So let us begin

Homemade chocolate recipe

Ingredients

Cocoa powder – 1/4 th cup + 2 tsp

Powdered brown sugar- 3 tbs

Vanilla essence(optional)- 1 drop

Coconut oil or cocoa butter- 1/4 th cup

Preparation for double boiler

On a gas flame, keep a bowl and fill it 1/3 with water. Let it get boil. Now place another bowl which does not touches surface of water. Prepare chocolate n the upper bowl keeping the flame at lowest.

Preparation for home-made chocolate recipe

  • In a bowl take 1/4th cup of cocoa powder and sieve it well.
  • In another bowl sieve 3 tablespoon of powdered brown sugar or unrefined crystal sugar.
  • Now in a double boiler take coconut oil (edible/virgin coconut oil) and mix it well till melts completely.
  • Add sugar to it and let dissolve completely. Now add cocoa powder to it and keep mixing it for a few minutes. Make sure there are no lumps and it has a flowing consistency.
  • At this stage, add a drop of vanilla essence. This is completely optional.
I have used this brand of essence, you can use any other brand.
  • Once it is done, turn off the flame and sieve the chocolate once again.
  • Now in a chocolate mould or in any cup cake mould transfer this chocolate. You can garnish it with your favorite dry fruit. Now, allow it to refrigerate for 2 hours.
  • Your home-made chocolate is ready.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. You can also make chocolate recipe with butter, cocoa butter or unsalted or white butter instead of coconut oil. But do not use vegetable oil or olive oil, as you they do not have tendency to get refrigerated and will start melting as soon as they are kept in room temperature.
2. You can also make chocolate recipe without cocoa powder. You can simply melt dark compound in double boiler and transfer it in moulds. But in order to make it more healthier, i used cocoa powder instead.
3. Melt the chocolate only in double boiler. And once water get boiled, keep the flame at lowest.
4. Do not over cook chocolate otherwise it may get burnt easily.
5. Do not avoid sieving powdered brown sugar and cocoa powder well.
6. You can also use honey instead of sugar.
7. You can make chocolate recipe with milk as well. But to do so, you cannot use milk directly but instead milk powder which i will not recommend. As milk powder are loaded with preservatives and chemicals to add taste and longevity to it.
